Residents are set to benefit from more energy efficient homes this winter as the UK’s largest energy efficiency initiative offers 50 free home energy efficiency assessments for the Government-backed Green Deal scheme to those living in Northumberland.
Warm Up North, which is endorsed by nine North East councils including Northumberland County Council, is offering 50 households in Northumberland a free no obligation custom Green Deal Assessment to find out how they could make their homes more energy efficient.
Available on a first-come first-served basis, the complimentary Green Deal assessments, which would usually cost £99 each, will offer homeowners expert impartial advice from a certified Green Deal Assessor along with tailored recommendations to help increase the energy efficiency of their home.
Following an assessment, residents are able to choose whether or not they want to implement the advice and arrange the installation of recommended measures. If they choose to proceed, Warm Up North will be happy to help arrange any required work, including boiler replacement, cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, heating systems, loft insulation and PV solar panels – all of which are installed by local Green Deal approved companies.
Warm Up North also offers flexibility in how installations are paid for, including access to Green Deal Finance which enables qualifying households to repay the cost of the work through the savings made on their energy bills, eliminating any upfront payments.
Jon Kershaw, head of operations at Warm Up North, said: “With most people having recently made new year’s resolutions, now is the time for many to think about making an energy efficiency resolution. We’re delighted to be able to offer a no obligation Green Deal assessment completely free of charge to the first 50 people who apply in each local authority area including in Northumberland.
“The key benefit of Green Deal is that you not only get energy efficiency advice tailored specifically to your home and lifestyle, but you could also use Green Deal Finance to pay for the improvements without paying any upfront cost. You may even get some additional cash back through the government’s Green Deal Cash Back offer.
“Through our partnership with nine of the region’s local authorities, including Northumberland County Council, we are looking forward to helping even more residents to benefit from comfortable homes and more affordable energy bills in the long-term.”
Coun Allan Hepple, policy board member responsible for housing at Northumberland County Council, added: “This scheme is providing some great opportunities for residents of Northumberland to make improvements to the energy efficiency of their homes.
“I have already seen examples of the work this scheme is helping to achieve for residents of a pilot area in Northumberland. They have benefited from energy efficiency improvements, tackling fuel poverty and are already seeing huge reductions in their energy bills.
“There are also going to be economic benefits as local companies have been encouraged to bid for some of the work, and we also hope to see further opportunities such as new apprenticeships.
“I would encourage Northumberland residents who are interested in finding out more to get in touch with the Warm Up North team. They could even be lucky enough to be one of the 50 households in the county to receive a free assessment.”
The free Green Deal assessments are offered on a first-come first-served basis to the initial 50 people to apply who live in each partner area, including Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Newcastle, Northumberland, Redcar & Cleveland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
