Business owners on the Quay Walls have expressed concern at the state of the neighbouring playhouse site.
One accommodation provider said: “The back of the house overlooks the Equatorial Forest (former Play House) fondly referred to by the council as the Pop Up Park project.
“My guests and other visitors comment on the disgraceful state of the site. How can you attract visitors with this disgusting sight? Today it has moved another step back, by the addition of someone’s laundry.”
Arch, Northumberland County Council’s arms-length development company, had earmarked £15,000 of Portas money to go towards a pop-up park planned for the former site in January.
However the site is privately owned, and tidiness is the responsibility of the owner.
