Ford auctioneer Peter Repper’s persistence in finding the right market for a rare carved tribal figure paid off for a Berwickshire client. After Bonhams rejected the figure as not particularly valuable Mr Repper did a little more research and decided to consign the figure to a specialist auction house in the Midlands where it sold for £5,200.

He explains: “The figure just had that look of antiquity and provenance I’ve come to recognise over the years - I had a gut-feeling there was something out of the ordinary about it.

“When I phoned the auction house in the Midlands to check on progress I had to ask twice if I was hearing correctly...I couldn’t wait to tell my client the fabulous news.”
