BBC Look North’s Carol Malia will be returning as the host of the LOVE Northumberland Awards 2014.

The event, which honours those who go the extra mile to improve their local environment, is on July 22 at Alnwick Garden

Carol said: “I am really looking forward to coming back to compere the LOVE Northumberland awards again this year – it was inspiring to see first-hand, the great work and dedication of people right across the county.

“I look forward to seeing this year’s projects and what people are doing to keep Northumberland a clean and green place.”

In their fourth year and growing in popularity the awards are presented by the Duchess of Northumberland along with main sponsor the Banks Group.

The deadline for entries for this year’s awards has been extended to 5pm on Wednesday 25 June – so if you know of any individual, community group or business who deserve the award, urge them to submit an application.

Winners receive a £250 prize and runner-up projects a £100 prize,

The award categories that were successfully added last year will continue into this year’s awards - for the individual whose efforts towards their local environment make them stand out from the crowd, and also for the best environmental project by a business based in Northumberland.

Other long-standing categories are best new project, best urban project, best coast or countryside project, best young people’s and best children’s project.

Nominations are invited from schools, community, voluntary and other groups for projects that preserve and enhance the environment or that address local environmental issues or problems, especially through projects that help the public to get involved with the natural and built heritage of the county.

Nomination forms and further information about the LOVE Northumberland campaign are available at www.northumberland.gov.uk/love, by email from environment@northumberland.gov.uk or by phone on 0845 600 6400.
