Lib Dem Julie Pörksen is calling for extra daily trains for stations on the Chathill to Newcastle service.
Currently there is a service leaving Chathill at 07:08 and leaving Newcastle at 17:30.
The route includes Chathill, Alnmouth, Acklington, Widdrington, Pegswood, Morpeth and Cramlington.
Julie has asked the Department for Transport to look at introducing an additional return service in the morning and an additional return service in the afternoon.
She said: “The current service is so limited, particularly for Chathill, Acklington, Widdrington and Pegswood, it was designed for people who work 9-5 in central Newcastle.
“Local residents near these stations have told me they would like more choice in their train services, especially as bus travel can be so time-consuming on these routes.
“Improved choice and better service times can also be used to help day trippers from Tyneside and other tourists access Northumberland.”
She is encouraging others to respond to the consultation on services for the next Northern Rail franchise specification before the August 18 deadline.
“Northumbrian services only make up a small part of the Northern Rail franchise so it is important that we make our views heard clearly,” said Mrs Pörksen.
The consultation can be found at www.dft.gov.uk.
