Berwick Community Trust’s wind turbine on the northern outskirts of the town should be fully operational within the next week.

The grid connection is now complete and residents should soon see the blades unfurled and turning at the same kind of rates they are familiar with from other turbines.

Full operation will also mark the beginning of income generation, when the trust should begin to see the benefit for the town realised, although it will be 2015 before a really significant income flow is seen.

The unit is planned to operate for a minimum of 20 years as that is the length of the Feed in Tariff, but planning permission was granted for 25 years and so the actual lifespan is variable depending on output and maintenance considerations.
