The Belford Christmas Lights fund and the village’s football team have both benefitted from a head shave with a difference.

Nigel Turner, landlord of the Black Swan Hotel, raised £1000 by having his head shaved in the pub recently. The shaving, by Pat Bruce, was carried out over two weeks, with Nigel going about his business for a week with half long hair and half a shaved head, with his beard half long half shaved on opposite sides.

He is pictured above presenting £500 to Eric Gassner and Ian Carruthers (far and second left respectively), representing the Belford Christmas Lights Fund, and £500 to Walter Dunn (right) of Belford Football Club.

“We plan to use the money to refurbish the car parking area at the clubs ground in the village,” said Walter, who also helps organises the football club’s facebook group which villagers use to help raise funds and organise work parties for the club house.

Eric added that the Christmas Lights Committee planned to use the money to buy a large number of LED lights for the southern end of the village.
