HAVING taken over the management of Berwick Borough Council’s housing stock in 2008, Four Housing Group, parent company of Berwick Borough Housing, has recently completed work on its 1,500th property.
To recognise the milestone, Four Housing Group’s chairman Peter Gavin visited the 1,500th home to take a look at the work, meet the tenant and present her with flowers to celebrate the completion of the refurbishments at her home.
Ann McDonald of Osborne Place in Tweedmouth has had a new kitchen and bathroom fitted, new central heating installed and a partial rewire completed in her property in recent weeks.
Mr Gavin said: “Completing 1,500 upgrading works in Berwick is a fantastic achievement for us. We have worked closely with and listened to all of our customers to meet their needs and establish the best way to carry out the work.
“We’ve achieved so much since we initially surveyed the homes and have completed various works in our properties across Berwick from the installation of more energy efficient boilers to the fitting of new kitchens. We’re also on schedule to complete the Decent Homes Programme by Christmas, both on time and within budget.”
Mrs McDonald added: “I am so pleased with the work that has been carried out in our property, the workmen were friendly and accommodating and it’s great to have not only a new kitchen but a new bathroom too. It’s getting a lot colder as we get closer to Christmas so having a new central heating system installed couldn’t have come at a better time!” Ann’s comments mirror those of a customer satisfaction survey which revealed that while 78 per cent of tenants were happy with the service at transfer, that figure has risen to 89 per cent. Satisfaction with repairs has risen from 72 per cent to 83 per cent over the four-year period.
Mr Gavin said: “The on-going refurbishments and the way they have been carried out is testament to our staff and partners.
“Recent survey results indicate that 97 per cent of our customers in Berwick are satisfied with the service we provide; this is great news and we hope to continue to deliver high quality services to our customers in future.”
Last week, chief executive Paul Tanney revealed that Four Housing had completed 58 of the 65 pledges it made to tenants four years ago and that all but one of these targets should be reached by the end of the financial year.
It has also built 47 new homes across north Northumberland.
