Some vulnerable energy consumers are losing out following last year’s ‘simplification’ of tariffs.

From March 1 customers on Scottish Power’s Fresh Start tariff were automatically moved to the standard tariff.

Derek Russell, low carbon project officer for Berwick Community Trust said: “This is affecting significant numbers of elderly and vulnerable customers who will now be paying hundreds of pounds a year more unless they have taken steps to avoid the increase.”

He added: “I strongly advise anyone who was on the Fresh Start tariff take some action. The options available are to contact Scottish Power and see if they have a cheaper tariff, or to switch to a cheaper tariff with another supplier.”

Contact Derek Russell at Berwick Community Trust, or go along at 2pm on Friday, March 14 to the trust’s offices on Castlegate where he will be on hand to help.
