Youth Project team are most definitely Fabulous
Team Fabulous get ready to present their ideas to the Dragons
FIVE young people from Berwick Youth Project have ‘been hired’ by beating other groups from around Northumberland to win Young Apprentice 2013.
During a three-day stay at Longhirst Hall, four competing groups were tasked with creating a new product, generating marketing materials, a TV commercial and a radio jingle as well as preparing a presentation to their peers and a panel of business people and county council management.
Berwick’s Abigail Hood, Iona Frame, Rachael Johnston, Leanne Peters and Kyla Dean took their group, aptly named ‘Team Fabulous’, to victory. They put their success down to hard work, great communication and leadership skills as well as keeping their enthusiasm and energy levels high for what was a long, busy and chaotic weekend.
It wasn’t all hard work though. In between their young apprentice tasks and armed with boiler suits, each team had to listen out for the sound of a horn. On hearing it the groups had three minutes to get their suits on and be present and correct in the main work room.
Once there the groups would nominate a group member to take part in an ‘I’m a young person get me out of here’ challenge. This helped them to earn their team points which equated to cash for their presentations. Crickets were eaten, heads were submerged in custard and baked beans as well as a ‘face your fears’ game of witchetty grub roulette.
The Dragons’ Den event, named after popular TV programme, required the team to once again present, this time to the dragons, for an investment in their product.
Team Fabulous had a successful day, generating an investment of £125 to their product and future ideas.
