Wooler Wheel on National Park shortlist

THE hard work of organisers on the first Wooler Wheel bike ride have been recognised after the event was shortlisted for a Northumberland National Park Award.

The event, which took place for the first time in October, has been nominated in the Welcoming Park and Thriving Communities categories.

The aim of the National Park Awards is for the Northumberland National Park Authority to
acknowledge the many people and organisations who help to achieve the key aims set out
in the five-year-long National Park Management Plan.

Award winners receive a personal certificate, a plaque for public display and a financial contribution to a community fund of their choosing.

One rider who undertook the challenging route, through and over some of the most beautiful hill land in the county, felt that the Wheel was a ride with a difference. Sue Bevan compared the Wheel to several ‘Wiggle’ rides around the country. “It was a good event and well organised but, understandably given it’s one of many Wiggle rides, it lacked the
‘common touch’ of the Wooler Wheel.

“The volunteers were brilliant and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. The Wooler Wheel deserves to win.”
