Weekly and day bus prices up

BUS fares on Arriva services across North Northumberland are to be increased from this weekend.

‘Discover Day’ tickets will increase in price from £5.80 to £6, while the price of the ‘Passport Weekly’ ticket will increase from £20 to £21.

Nick Knox, area managing director for Arriva North East, said: “Arriva North East is committed to providing value for money fares and high service standards. This can be a difficult balance to maintain and current economic pressures mean that in order to maintain investment at current levels we need to increase a number of fares.

He emphasised that not all fares would go up, with some of the cheapest prices being frozen.

“On a more positive note, we have managed to freeze all adult single ticket prices under £2 and all adult returns under £3,” he said. “All adult singles and returns below £4.60 will increase by no more than 10p and fares above that by no more than 20p.”
