Praise for council housing plans

A GOVERNMENT minister has heaped praise on Northumberland County Council’s ambitious plans to boost housing, describing it as “extremely good news”.

The Lib Dem-led council has announced it is allocating £20m in cash and £20m worth of land across Northumberland for the next three years.

In the House of Lords, Communities and Local Government Minister Baroness Hanham praised the council for its investment.

In response to a question from Berwick peer Baroness Maddock, she said: “I am glad that Northumberland is making use of legislation, as it can, to best effect.”
