Palace Green Pavilion takes another step forward

REFURBISHMENT of the Palace Green Pavilion in Berwick has taken another step forward with the preparation of a business plan compiled by David Brettell, who has experience and expertise in this field.

"This will be the basis of the application for Heritage Lottery Funds for the conversion of this historic building into a versatile community hall," explained Lord Joicey, a trustee of Palace Green Pavilion Trust, and also president of the North Northumberland District of the Scout Association. The pavilion is owned be 5th Berwick Scouts.

A 100-page recipe book produced to raise funds for the refurbishment, entitled The Palace Kitchen, has now sold almost all 300 copies since its launch at the farmers' market before Christmas. Local businesses, food producers, restaurants and cafes, and even the Scouts themselves, have contributed recipes and have given a financial boost with 1800 of profit being raised from the sale of the books.

Local chef Richard Sim said: "The recipe book is ideal in promoting local recipes, local food producers and suppliers as well as supporting a local cause. This would be good to have at roadshows."

The interest in the recipe book has been tremendous and with the help of some funding from Jus-Rol, a second run is underway to enable local Tourist Information Centres, local bookshops and many interested holiday accommodation outlets to be supplied with copies.

The trustees are immensely grateful to all the many businesses and producers who have supported the Palace Green Pavilion project so far, as well as all the recent contributions and donations for a coffee morning, to be held on May 10 in the Guildhall.

At the coffee morning there will be an update on the evolution of the Palace Green Pavilion, including the history, maps, photos, and plans for the future, a treasure map created by the Scouts, face painting, cakes provided by many local food producers and suppliers, and the usual raffle, tombola, bric-a-brac and plant stalls.
