Marygate crossing concerns raised

Proposals for Marygate include a pedestrian crossing

Proposals for Marygate include a pedestrian crossing

CONCERNS have been raised by a Berwick residents about any plans to put a pedestrian crossing on Marygate close to the Golden Square roundabout.

Alex Gibson from Highcliffe, who is already campaigning for the dualling of the A1, raised the matter at a meeting of Berwick Town Council.

He said: “I’m worried about any plans to put a crossing too close to the roundabout. It would be the wrong place, it should be further down the street.”

A working group is currently discussing calls to reintroduce short stay parking on Marygate to help struggling traders. Councillor Brian Douglas had put forward a proposal with a crossing near the Golden Square roundabout.

Councillor Alan Bowlas has been selected as the town council’s representative on the group.
