A FISHERIES Authority member has resigned after he breached the authority’s own byelaws.

William Miller, formally of the Northumberland Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority (NIFCA) was discovered in possession of an undersized lobster by a NIFCA patrol.

He was also in possession of a specially ‘v-notched’ lobster. These are not intended for capture, in order to boost stocks .

Miller disputed the accusation, and was issued with a warning.

The Authority took the view that the nature of the offence had made Mr Miller’s position as a NIFCA member untenable and he was asked to tender his resignation.
