Horncliffe survey may lead to housing on ex-school site

QUESTIONNAIRES have been sent to all residents in the Horncliffe catchment area asking for information on the need for affordable housing and what size of houses are required.

The survey has been sent out by Signet Planing who are assessing demand for a redevelopment of the former Horncliffe First School site.

Horncliffe Parish Council has asked anyone with a possible interest including downsizing to complete the questionnaire.

Coun Dougie Watkin, member for Norham and Islandshires, informed the meeting that there are currently 6,000 people in Northumberland waiting for sheltered houses.

A member of the public asked if the village could purchase the site if the affordable housing does not go head. Parish councillors agreed that they needed to wait to see what demand there is for affordable housing.

Chairman George Miller also revealed that fellow councillor Moira Kay had delivered leaflets to all the houses in Horncliffe and he had delivered the leaflets to all the rural houses to encourage residents to register their interest for faster broadband. He explained that residents must reply because the funding is allocated on a number basis, so it is important everybody registers their interest

The clerk revealed that the signed agreement from BT for the telephone kiosk has been received and the defibrillator has been ordered.
