Garden waste collection scheme set to restart
KEEN gardeners across Northumberland will be having their green waste collected by the council again from next month.
Collections of garden waste will run from the week beginning March 4 or the week beginning March 11, depending on where you live, and continue until November.
All residents who used the kerbside collection service last year have been sent a letter from Northumberland County Council inviting them to take part again. The service costs £23 for each 240 litre wheeled bin for fortnightly collections.
Paul Jones, head of waste management, said: “Our recycling rates across the county improve year on year and this initiative is set to continue that trend. We are working hard at increasing the number of properties covered by the scheme each year to assist with this.”
Through the service residents can dispose of leaves, grass, hedge and tree cuttings, and similar materials. Woody material must be less than 10cm in diameter. Residents should not put green waste in their general waste bins.
To join the scheme phone 0845 600 6400.
