CHRISTMAS came early for a Tweedmouth Middle School pupil when he got into the festive spirit with his Newcastle United idols.

Football-mad Aaron Davidson was selected as one of the lucky hundred Newcastle United junior magpie supporters who received a golden ticket to join the first team players and manager Alan Pardew for their Christmas party.

Aaron’s mum Vicky explained: “He’s a huge fan, his bedroom is like a Newcastle United grotto! He’s a season ticket holder and has been a member of the junior magpie’s for a number of years now.

“Every year there’s a few picked to go down and this year they did it like a Willy Wonka style with a golden ticket.

“When we got the envelope on Thursday he was so excited. I said ‘guess who’s got a golden ticket?’ and he was like ‘no way!’”

Twelve-year-old Aaron, who lives in Farne Road, Spittal, spent Saturday afternoon with his heros at St James Park. He described it as “the best day ever”.

Vicky, who went down with him, said, “It was brilliant! Alan Pardew was there and all the players, Aaron met them all and had his shirt signed. They played games and Aaron was in a team with Steven Taylor and Ben Arfa.”

“We’ve been to the odd club signing before where you’re moved on really quickly, but this time it wasn’t rushed. To meet the manager was a big thing and he was really nice!”

The only draw back is that Aaron now needs a new shirt for football practise, with his previous one, signed by all the players, destined for his bedroom wall.
