PARAMEDICS and police were called out after a man collapsed in a Berwick street around 10.30am on Thursday morning.

Witnesses said they saw the man, who was clutching a can of strong lager, stumble into the Scotsgate arch before collapsing a short distance away.

Police were called to assist with traffic management, reducing part of Marygate and Castlegate to a one-way system for around an hour while paramedics treated the man.

They eventually got him into an ambulance and he was taken away to hospital.

The incident led to minor delays for drivers in the town centre.
