Community groups win RHS awards
In Your Neighbourhood awards for Tweedmouth and The Greenses. John Robertson and Ian Hay
COMMUNITY groups from the Greenses and Tweedmouth West End have won outstanding achievement awards in the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ scheme.
It completes the most successful year for the Berwick in Bloom group who, as well as coordinating the town’s Northumbria in Bloom effort, helped create the opportunity for additional and specific areas of the town to participate and be judged in their own right.
Bernard Shaw of Berwick in Bloom said: “As with the Northumbria in Bloom awards presentation we were optimistic but apprehensive and absolutely delighted when both the Greenses and Tweedmouth West End residents achieved the highest grade.
“Both John Robertson, representing the West End Residents Association, and Ian Hay from the Greenses, were thrilled with the outcome of the hard work and dedication shown by their friends and neighbours.”
Tweedmouth West First School and Spittal First School set the example by gaining gold and silver awards in the Northumbria in Bloom ‘Growing Together’ programme. This was followed by Berwick, Spittal and Ord Country Park gaining three more silver awards.
