Berwick to help NHS workshops shape future of healthcare

People in Berwick are being asked to give their views to help shape local health services in the future.

Five workshops are taking place across north Northumberland which will shape future priorities for the NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for 2013/14 and identify any gaps in services.

CCGs – which used to be known as GP consortia – lie at the heart of the government’s plans to reform the NHS and put local clinicians in charge of health spending on behalf of patients.

NHS Northumberland CCG represents all 46 GP practices across the county and covers a population of around 330,000. To ensure a local focus the CCG has four localities – north, west, Blyth Valley and central.

The workshops will be led by the relevant CCG locality leads and Northumberland Local Involvement Network (LINk). The role of LINk is to ensure the voice of local people is heard in health and social care decisions.

Hilary Brown, north locality lead for NHS Northumberland CCG, said: “We spend a lot of time listening to the views of local people about how they would like services to be developed and delivered and the comments we receive help to shape the way we plan local healthcare services.

“The workshops are the first of three stages of talking to local people and our stakeholders about the CCG plans to commission healthcare and health services in the future. These events give local people an opportunity to influence how we ensure quality healthcare services are delivered in Northumberland.”

Cynthia Atkin, chair of Northumberland LINk, said: “We hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to come along and get involved. We want to continue to support and encourage local people to get involved and have their say on the local healthcare services that affect them.”

The Berwick workshop will be held at the Swan Centre, Tweedmouth, on Wednesday, September 12 from 6.30pm-8pm.

Anyone interested in going to one of the workshops can telephone Northumberland LINk on 01434 600599 or email info@northumberlandlink.org.uk
