Berwick pub looking for singers with the X Factor
AN X Factor-style singing contest is being held at the White Horse pub in Berwick every Sunday night.
Landlord Bill Akers has put up a £200 prize for the eventual winner, with prizes also on offer to heat winners.
“The idea is to run the contest over 10 weeks with two people from each heat going through to one of two semi-finals before a grand final in early April,” explained Bill.
“I’ve put up a £200 first prize to try and encourage people to come along and have a go but the one stipulation is that they mustn’t be professional or semi-professional singers.”
The first stage took place on Sunday past and Bill was delighted with the turnout.
“We had six entries which we were pretty pleased with,” he said. “Hopefully, as word gets around, we will be able to attract a few more.
“I’ve tried similar events at the last pub I was at in Durham and I hope this will be as successful,” said Bill, who is approaching his second anniversary at the White Horse.
“It’s good fun and we’re hoping to give a little bit back to Berwick by staging the contest,” he added.
“It would be great if we can get enough entries to put on a couple of really strong semi-finals and then a grand final of the best contestants.”
The contest takes place from 9pm every Sunday. All welcome.
