BERWICK ballroom dancing duo Anne and Eddie Cerexhe-Burness sashayed their way to a third place finish at the Champions of Tomorrow competition in Blackpool.

The Windsor Crescent couple, who are trained in Edinburgh, were one of only two Scottish-based couples to make a final on the day.

Competing almost three years to the day since their very first contest, the Cerexhe-Burness’ impressed the judges to earn themselves a third place finish in the over 35 intermediate category.

The high standing on the day made the hours of practise they put in over the Christmas period worthwhile, although Anne and Eddie felt they could have danced better.

“Third was good as it was for the whole of UK, but we felt we could have done better on the day,” Anne admitted.

But it’s an exciting year ahead for the pair, who have already qualified for the finals of Britian’s Best Titles, which takes place in October.

“We entered a competition at the end of December in Nantwich as a warm-up to the Blackpool competition, and won a trophy,” Anne explained. “We were named the senior pre-champions for waltz, tango, foxtrot and quickstep, which means we gain automatic entry into the finals of Britian’s Best Titles.”

In the meantime the couple are widening their repertoire. “We have now had to move up a level, and are having to learn new variations,” Anne said. “These take time and obviously things keep getting harder. We have also started to go back to Latin to bring that on a bit and we are on the Rumba at present which is very difficult!”

Anne and Eddie will next compete in mid Feburary, and once a month thereafter,
