Beat the winter blues with family support volunteers
CSV project coordinator Melanie Eve is urging north Northumberland and Borders residents to beat the winter blues by volunteering.
Berwick Volunteers in Family Support is seeking new volunteers right now for this innovative project - a partnership between Northumberland Council and Community Service Volunteers charity (CSV), which aims to prevent complex family problems by providing help at an early stage.
Melanie explained: “The first group of volunteers are now visiting their family once a week, and helping by providing a listening ear and sometimes a helping hand. The volunteers come from different parts of Berwick and the Borders, and are just keen to help others, because they understand the importance of family life as a foundation for life.”
She added: “People who volunteer have better mental wellbeing, - volunteering can give you a real sense of purpose, by carrying out a new role in a satisfying activity.
“Why not start your new year by using your parenting skills to volunteer with a Berwick based initiative?”
CSV provide training for all volunteer applicants, starting on January 16 for three Wednesdays. Contact Melanie for more information on 07531 107 892 or email meve@csv.org.uk and start the new year with a new role.
