Approval for house extension
A HOUSEHOLDER has won permission for a single-storey extension to a house in Spittal’s conservation area.
The extension would replace two single-storey buildings behind the property in Main Street and have a neutral effect on the area, members of the county’s north area planning committee were told at Alnwick.
They agreed unanimously to grant permission.
There were no objections to the scheme, which was referred to the committee because area development manager Peter Rutherford lives in the vicinity.
Councillor Brian Douglas asked why only next-door neighbours had received notification.
Principal planning officer Vivienne Robinson said that was usual for a rear extension.
Because it was a conservation area it had also been advertised in the press and with a notice on site.
“We are not able to over-consult – if we had gone wider, we could have been in trouble for that.”
Coun Douglas said he would withdraw from the debate and take no part in the vote.
