Affordable homes included in new Belford scheme
PLANS for the next phase of the Raynham Road housing development in Belford have received the green light from Northumberland County Council.
Tyneside-based N B Clark have secured planning permission for 12 new homes - half of which will be affordable homes for rent.
The developer had previously planned to market all the new homes for sale.
The developer has also bowed to pressure from the council and Belford Parish Council to help meet the demand for two bedroom properties in the village.
Phase two will now comprise a pair of two bedroom homes and four three bedroom properties.
Recent data showed that 23 out of 41 Belford residents using the Homefinder application process were searching for two bedroom homes.
Parish council clerk Isabel Hunter said: “Belford has probably the largest proportion of elderly people living in it as a share of its total local population in the UK, many of whom are currently living in larger-than-needed, ground-with-first-floor homes unsuited to their current and future needs (many of which were owned by Berwick Borough Council later transferred to Berwick Borough Housing) who wish to downsize into more suitable two-bedroom homes with a particular need for bungalow layouts.”
