A WORKING group has been formed to organise a series of events to mark the 900th anniversary of Berwick in 2015.

Local historian and tour guide Derek Sharman is hoping to organise the first meeting later this month.

Representatives invited to take part include Captain Jim Evans of Berwick Freeman, town councillors Jennifer Waterhouse and Anne Reid, archivist Linda Bankier, Bernard Shaw of Berwick Cittaslow, Brian Martin of PFL Audio, Annie Robinson and Joe Lang.

Berwick has a very ancient history. It is first mentioned in a Danish source in 833 but the first official written record of Berwick is in 1115.

The idea to commemorate the anniversary was initiated by the Guild of Freemen and is supported by Berwick Town Council.
