Blue badge holders are being reminded to register their details if they want to park for free at Wansbeck General Hospital.
To do so, visit www.northumbria.nhs.uk/parking, call 0191 293 4353 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust introduced a new car parking system earlier this year to standardise parking across its three general hospital sites.
As part of the system – called ParkingEye – all disabled (blue) badge holders are able to park for free at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham general hospitals however they must register their details.
Disabled (blue) badge holders who have registered their vehicle can park in the allocated disabled bays or any other public parking area (but not staff car parks).
Steven Bannister, director of estates and facilities at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “So far more than 18,000 disabled (blue) badge holders have registered their details with us and we would encourage all badge holders to get in touch with us and do the same before they need to visit hospital, or on the day.
“People only need to register with us once and their vehicle will be exempt every time they visit one of our general hospitals. However, if people change their vehicle, travel in a different vehicle or have a new or replacement disabled badge, they need to let us know.”
He added: “ParkingEye helps us deliver a much fairer car parking system at our general hospitals for all our patients and visitors and ensures that spaces for the public are located as near to hospital entrances as possible.
“The system offers people the option to pay by debit or credit card if they would like to and they can pay when they leave hospital – as long as they make sure that they’ve paid the appropriate amount for the time they’ve been in the hospital car park.
“We also have a free 20-minute period for ‘pick-ups’ and ‘drop-offs’.”
