June 1989 saw the opening of Bedrocks on Berwick’s Golden Square.

Described as “a brand new concept in nightclubbing,” it was the brainchild of Peter Waite, who spent five months doing up the site of the former Rum Puncheon restaurant.

Radio Forth DJ Steve Jack and a page three model were being lined up for the special opening, and Mr Waite was especially proud of his project. His advert described the “specially designed and hand-woven carpet” that matched the “fluorescent colour scheme”.
