A new resident has been spotted in Alnwick – a roe deer.

Mark and Sam Hobrough saw the deer venture on to a field near the former Duke’s Middle School and captured it on video.

Mark said: “I was really surprised to see a deer so close.

“I’ve lived here 10 years and never seen one on the field so the mature habitat that is there is obviously one she likes.”

Mark, chairman of a residents group set up to oppose the plans, said: “I guess this just shows what we’re all campaigning for, which is that this side of the Dukes field is a beautiful home to wildlife.

“It’s really nice to see a new resident. Let’s hope she likes what she’s seen and brings the rest of her family with her.”
