A NEW group has been established in Spittal for Northumbrian Pipers to play together.
The Spittal Northumbrian Piping Group met for the first time on December 13, and will continue to meet on the second Thursday of each month at the Blenheim Hotel on Main Street, Spittal.
Set up by pipers who wanted to establish a more northerly outpost for players, the group also welcomes any other F-pitch instruments.
George Prentice, who has been involved in setting up the group, said: “The first meeting was very successful. Twelve people have signed up to join so we were absolutely delighted with that, and the Blenheim Hotel, where we’ll have all our meetings, were excellent hosts.”
“We normally have to go to Longramlington, Alnwick or Morpeth, so we wanted to set up a group in the north of the county so people don’t have to travel so far.
The group has been set up initially just to play together, but hopes to play for local audiences and charities in the future.
