Construction of an innovative scheme for elderly people in Belford will start in the spring, following the announcement of a major funding boost.
The Countryside Agency has agreed to provide £180,000 towards building the Bell View resource centre and sheltered housing project.

A final stay of execution has been granted to a 19th century granary in Berwick which is under threat of demolition.
Attempts have been made over the last two years to find an alternative use for the disused building in Dewar’s Lane, off Bridge Street, but if no suitable ideas are forthcoming in the next month the borough council will give the owners, grain company McCreath Simpson and Prentice, permission to pull it down.

Over £40, collected by Wooler firemen during the past four days, will enable a Kimmerston couple who lost their hope and entire belongings in a fire, to give their three children a happy Christmas.
The fire, whipped up by a 65mph gale, destroyed the farm cottage home of Mr and Mrs John Gray, of Kimmerston Farm, near Milfield. Furniture, clothing and other belongings including Christmas presents were lost in the blaze.

Much amusement was caused in Berwick high street on Tuesday morning by the escapade of a turkey which escaped from the poultry shop of Mr J C Cowe; it flew across the street and perched on the roof of Messrs Paxton and Purves’ shop. It was recaptured by strategy.
The chief Christmas attraction at Berwick will be the football match at Union Park between the Rangers and Edinburgh Civil Service who are bringing their strongest XI.
