Grants available for young entrepreneurs
The Northumberland Youth Enterprise Fund (NYEF) is now open for applications.
Available to Northumberland residents aged between 16 and 25, the NYEF is a small grant fund to assist with developing a business idea or business start-up costs. Young people can apply for up to £500.
Councillor Lesley Rickerby, Northumberland County Council’s executive member for children and young people, said: “Encouraging young people to take initiative and develop their entrepreneurial side can inspire change in all aspects of their lives.
“All start-up businesses face challenges and require a lot of hard work but the rewards can be great. This support will allow our young people to find out what it is like to be their own boss and pursue their career ambitions while gaining valuable skills and making contacts for the future.”
The fund is intended to be flexible in to reflect the diverse needs of applicants. Existing businesses are eligible to apply if they are within one year of commencing trading and the business is based within Northumberland. Funding applications can be made for such things as test marketing a product or service, development needs, travel or assistance with reasonable start-up costs. Applicants will need to complete a simple application form which they can choose to supplement with additional supporting information such as a business plan to give their application a boost.
Successful applicants will be offered three month’s one-to-one support from a Northumberland County Council Enterprise Officer. They will also be provided with free access to the resource distribution network WARPit.
