Berwick WorkSpace reaping the benefits of European funding
BERWICK WorkSpace has been one of the main beneficiaries of the European Regional Development Fund which invested over £23 million in 22 projects in 2012.
The Walkergate-based incubation units received £192,428 ERDF investment to continue supporting an existing project led by Northumberland County Council.
The authority is supporting the growth of SMEs through tailored business support to encourage a faster rate of business formation and address the enterprise deficit and low business density in the Berwick area.
Information and advice about all aspects of running or establishing a business are being provided leading to 21 businesses receiving assistance and creating 30 jobs.
Coun Neil Foster, deputy chair of the North East England Local Management Committee, which engages key partners in the overseeing of the strategic delivery of the ERDF Programme in the North East, said: “The North East ERDF Programme has had another successful year ensuring excellent projects are approved which are contributing to local economic growth bringing new businesses and jobs.”
“As a direct result of ERDF investments in 2012, over 2,000 jobs are being created and over 300 safeguarded, around 300 businesses are being created and nearly 3,300 businesses are being supported to improve their performance or increase their green credentials.”
