Large queues formed outside Fairbairns in Berwick for its biggest ever sale, when £675,000 worth of stock was put up for “immediate disposal”.
The family furniture retailer’s five-day clear-out, which ended yesterday, was held to prepare for a major refurbishment and redecoration at the shop on Church Street.
“It was very good, we cleared a lot of stuff,” said general manager Martin Fairbairn.
“I’d just like to thank our customers for their tremendous response. We had lots of kind comments. It is all appreciated by the team at Fairbairns.”
He added: “I’d like to reassure people that we are not closing. We are clearing space for a refurbishment, which will include a newly-designed shop front. We’re hoping to have it done by the end of the year.”
