BERWICK Garden Centre at East Ord is a finalist in the 2012 Countryside Alliance Awards, nicknamed the ‘Rural Oscars’.
Berwick Garden Centre is among the three north east finalists in the enterprise category that are vying for a regional title and the chance of national acclaim.
It is up against fellow enterprise finalists Slack House Farm at Upper Weardale and Hadrians Country Kitchen of Gilsland, Brampton.
The Countryside Alliance Awards, now in their eighth year, celebrate the characters, skills, traditions and enterprise of the countryside through the people who work so hard to make it tick.
Each finalist has received numerous nominations from supportive customers and hopes to go all the way to the Parliamentary final next March.
Simon Hamlyn, regional director of the Countryside Alliance North East, said that celebrating rural businesses gave them a “well-deserved” boost.
“It is exciting to see such a diverse range of rural businesses included and I look forward to meeting the people behind each shop counter,” Mr Hamyln said.
“The North East continues to have a tough year with bad weather affecting the harvest and tourism. It is vital that we support our small rural businesses through this time and help to revive our rural economy – celebrating them in the ‘Rural Oscars’ gives them a well-deserved boost.”
