FORD and Etal Estates is holding its third annual Walking Festival from May 10-18, providing an opportunity for walking enthusiasts to explore parts of the Estates and local countryside that they do not ordinarily have a chance to see.

It is hoped the event will build on the success of the Berwick Borough Council organised walking festival held last spring.

A number of routes have been devised for walkers, of varying lengths from three to 10 miles employing in places paths and
tracks that are not normally available to the public; however these will be permitted for the duration of the festival allowing people further to take in the wonderful views the Estate offers.

Lord Joicey is also going to lead a circular walk on Sunday, May 11, taking in a number of points of interest during a walk that is approximately six miles long.

His theme is the role of the modern estate, and will touch on conservation, agricultural practices, heritage, tourism and many other subjects; meet at Heatherslaw Visitor Centre for 11am.

Anthony Johnstone of the Northumberland Wildlife Trust will also lead two walks, on May 14 and 16, starting at Ford Village at 10.30am, that will explore Ford Moss Nature Reserve. The walk is approximately 5.5 miles. Good footwear and clothing, and a packed lunch is recommended.

These guided walks are free of charge, but booking is advisable (01890) 820 338.
