A CAMPAIGN encouraging accommodation providers to serve and promote Northumberland produce on their breakfast menu has been launched.
Everyone has heard of a traditional full English, Scottish or Irish breakfast but what about the Great Northumberland Breakfast?
It could mean Craster kippers, stottie cake, grilled Lindisfarne oysters and Craster smoked salmon with Sunny Hill f
ree range scrambled eggs or locally produced sausages and bacon.
The different breakfast produce is being highlighted today (Thursday) at an event organised by the Country Landowners Association and Made in Northumberland at the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick.
Invited guests are being served breakfast using only Northumberland produce and given a cookery demonstration by consultant chef Richard Sim.
This will be followed by Paul Smith, general manager of The White Swan Hotel, Angus Collingwood Cameron from the CLA and Adam Ellis Jones, Made in Northumberland, all stressing the importance of using and promoting local produce to visitors and guests.
Mr Ellis Jones hopes that many more accommodation providers and restaurants will use and promote local on their breakfast menu.
He said: "We are fully aware that ingredients from Northumberland are used by many establishments, however we need more people to use local and more people to actually tell their guests that their breakfast is from Northumberland produce.
"Northumberland has a vast array of produce, and most of them lend wonderfully to creating a very special start to a Northumberland day. We hope that people from Northumberland will get involved and recommend what they would class as a 'great Northumberland breakfast'."
Accommodation providers are invited to join Richard Sim's breakfast cookery demonstrations at 10.30am and 12.30pm (open to the public) and 2.30pm.
Made in Northumberland, part of Northumberland Tourism, strives to increase the range of locally produced goods offered to the visitor and to promote Northumberland as a culinary destination.
The CLA are also strong backers of local produce being on offer in the region and the work of Made in Northumberland is dove tailed with the CLA's 'Just Ask Campaign', which seeks to encourage everybody to demand locally sourced food when ever they eat out.
