A MIXTURE of sunshine and heavy showers made it a typically variable April at the Spittal weather station.

The month started quite warm but as the wind went round to the north, temperatures fell and began to recover only slowly by the 24th.

The mean maximum temperature was 10.4°C which is marginally above the long-term average.

On the whole it was a very wet month with rain on 22 days. In total, 65.6mm rain fell, this is approximately 182% of the average for this month.
