Spanish visitors caught out by rising tide

TWO Spanish holidaymakers were rescued from Holy Island causeway on Tuesday evening after their car got trapped by the rising tide - more than an hour outside the safe crossing times.
The man and woman managed to reach the rescue box, but as they spoke no English, they had to rely on onlookers to raise the alarm. Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses inshore lifeboat just after 5.45pm.
It made its way to the causeway by road because of the foggy conditions which also prevented the use of the air sea rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer.
The pair were rescued by the inshore lifeboat and taken back to the mainland where they were handed over to the care of local coastguards.
Safe crossing times on Tuesday were 10am to 4.20pm.
The alarm came in as the Seahouses all-weather lifeboat was preparing to launch with a film crew from the BBC's The One Show who were making a documentary interview about Grace Darling and were set to visit the Longstone Lighthouse.
Earlier in the afternoon, coastguards were called out to rescue a car which had got stuck in the soft sand near the causeway while the tide was out.
