FOLLOWING concerns from council planning officers about the reasons given for the refusal of planning permission for Wandylaw wind farm, the eight reasons given for refusal at the meeting at Berwick High School on October 23 have been redrafted, clarified, and approved by the council planning committee.
Concerns over the original reasons were that some could not be substantiated and would not stand up to any possible appeal by developers RidgeWind, and this was emphasised at Tuesday's planning committee meeting by the borough's solicitor, Liam Henry, who also said he had "every reason to believe it will go to appeal."
Following the revision of the original reasons, there are now just four reasons for the refusal of the application. These are; the detrimental impact on the landscape the proposal would result in; the combined impacts on the local landscape of both the proposed Middlemoor and Wandylaw wind farms; the unacceptable safety risks the development would have in terms of low-flying aircraft; and finally, the adverse impact the development would have on tourism and the local economy.
