CARPENTER and joiner, Jim Patterson, has hung up his overalls for the last time, retiring from Northumberland College's Construction Skills Centre in Berwick after almost seven years of service.
Jim, who was born and bred in Berwick, has worked in the construction industry since leaving school 50 years ago.
He started his working life with local construction firm Pearce and later worked at several other construction companies until he decided to share his knowledge with others.
Jim joined the college in 2001 as a technician and during his time with the organisation became involved in teaching across a wide remit of trades including bricklaying, joinery and painting and decorating.
Speaking of his time at the college, he said: "I was very keen on woodwork at school and it was great being back in a learning environment; the students are a great bunch of lads. I'm looking forward to a peaceful retirement."
John Cockburn, outreach centre manager at Berwick, presented Jim with a framed photo of him working with students.
John said: "Jim was very popular with both staff and students and was known for his patience and good humour. We all wish him a happy retirement."
