Initial work to restore the pipe organ at Berwick Parish Church has begun.
Organ builder Geoffrey Coffin visited the church to meet with Wyndham Rogers-Coltman, chair of the restoration fund, parish organist and choirmaster, John Burton, and the vicar, Canon Alan Hughes.
They discussed the practicalities involved, measured key locations, planned the electrical wiring, agreed the final contract and drew up a timescale for completion by Easter 2011, with work starting in earnest this summer.
The restoration fund has raised almost £130,000 so far, thanks to the generosity of local folk and trusts, leaving £30,000 still to be found.
Anyone will to contribute should send donations to Berwick Parish Church Trust, c/o The Vicarage, Parade, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1DF.
