SPITTAL Improvement Trust have backed calls for a university in the town and have, like Rev Alan Hughes, suggested Spittal Point as a possible site.

Vice chairman of the trust, Geroge Weidmann told the committee that Spittal Point would be a good site for a complex, and would help to develop wider education facilities in the Borough.

The Vicar of Spittal, Dr John Harrison agreed, and said the area offered great potential.

They have sent a letter to Alan Beith MP, the borough director of regeneration, Shona Alexander, One NorthEast, the Berwick Development Trust and the Local Schools Partnership seeking their support.

The idea is gathering momentum following the Government's challenge for another 20 university centres to be set up.

Who is kidding who. There is not even a college in Berwick of any worth.

Still at least more of our rates will be wasted on expensive consultants.

Roll on the closure of Berwick Council at least it will just be Northumberland wasting money rather than the both.
