A NORTH Northumberland haulage firm has been snapped up by Sheffield-based TAL Logistics Group.

Phillips (Seahouses), of Belford, has been bought as part of a programme of acquisitions with the aim of doubling in size over the next 18 months.

Phillips has been a successful rural business for the last 60 years and will continue to operate as a stand-alone business under the TAL Logistics umbrella. Jim Phillips and his wife Hazel will be staying on in a consultancy role during the hand-over period.

The company was set up in 1947 by Jim's grandfather and specialises in carrying multi-delivery palletised agricultural products such as seed grain, fertiliser and animal feeds as well as paper products, timber, foodstuffs and chemicals.

Originally based in Seahouses, Phillips now has 15,000 square feet of warehouse space with a service garage and yard located next to the A1 in Belford. It has a fleet of 13 vehicles and TAL plans to add to it over the next year.
