HIGHWAYS chiefs hope to receive Government funding to carry out landslip repair work near Horncliffe.
The road to the Union Chain Bridge has been closed since a landslide just below Chain Bridge Honey Farm in December
Northumberland County Council has made a bid to the Department for Transport to claw back money it spent on flood damage last Septem
ber.
Dick Fraser, the county's head of highways policy, revealed road repairs near Chain Bridge Farm would be a priority if the bid is successful.
"We've made a bid for £4.2 million and while we are not expecting to receive the full amount we are hoping to get a sizeable amount to carry out repairs, notably Chain Bridge Farm in this area," he told Berwick area committee members.
The council spent some £2 million on emergency repairs last year, including work on the A697 following a landslip at Powburn and on the Lion Bridge in Alnwick.
The Chain Bridge landslip resulted in a section of the C2 road collapasing, while a recently restored footbridge and several mature trees were swept into the River Tweed.
The road below the honey farm is closed to traffic and pedestrians until the route is repaired but the bridge is open to traffic and pedestrians from the Scottish side. The Chain Bridge Honey Farm has been open for business as usual.
