Floods hit Belford's oldest house
Traffic was disrupted at Belford on Friday morning after heavy overnight rain caused serious flooding in what is thought to be the oldest house in the village.
The rain which lasted into the morning became really heavy about 5am and soon become a torrent with the infamous "stair rods" appearing and staying until about four hours later.
Phil Nicholson, who owns Well House, on the High Street, awoke to find his cellar flooded.
"All I could see was huge rush of water appearing between the bottom two steps in the cellar. The local Belford fireman were fantastic," said Phil.
"They put the pump on for about 15 minutes to get rid of the flood." The amount of water in the cellar can be judged as the pump can remove 620 litres of water in a minute!
"It just goes to show how lucky we are in Belford to have such a great bunch of firemen," said a local bystander.
