THE first meeting of the new Berwick-upon-Tweed Town Council will take place on Monday, May 19, at 7pm in the Parish Centre, Berwick.

At the meeting the new councillors will elect a chair and vice chair of the town council. Other items up for discussion are the make up of the council, including any committees, the financial arrangements and training opportunities for the new councillors.

Borough secretary David Cook said: "This is the first meeting of the newly elected Berwick-upon-Tweed Town Council. Councillors will be looking at the arrangements in place to enable work to start and also discussing how to fill the vacancy in St Boisil. Members of the public are welcome to attend and also ask questions. These should be submitted before the meeting via Sue Finch on (01289) 301721 or e-mail svf@berwick-upon-tweed.gov.uk"

The town council is currently looking to recruit a clerk and once the new officer takes up position Berwick's town council will no longer be administered by Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council.
