THE GRIEVING parents of a six year-old boy killed in a car crash in Russia have spoken of their devastating loss.
Jason Bradbury died in a head-on collision as he travelled to the airport at the end of a three week holiday visiting family in his mother's homeland.
Jason, who lived at Billendean Road and was a pupil at Spittal First School, was pronounced dead a
t the scene.
His dad, Stephen, said: "He had really enjoyed the trip and was looking forward to the new school term. He told his mother that next time he wanted to take all his class mates with him.
"Jason was an energetic, happy six year-old who had all his life to live. He always had a smile on his face and this is how we would like people to remember him.
"He will be severely missed by all those who knew him, especially his parents and brother, Anton.
"We would like to thank everyone, especially our family, for all the support and kind messages we have received at this most difficult and sad time."
Jason's mum, Katya, suffered a broken neck in the crash but is now back home in Spittal where she is making a slow but steady recovery.
"She has to wear a halo brace for the next three or four months and has to take it easy but she should be alright," said Stephen.
The crash, which also left Anton and other members of the family injured, is understood to have happened when the Bradbury's car was hit by an oncoming vehicle which was out of control.
The incident is still under investigation by Russian police.
After the accident Stephen, who did not make the trip, spent three days organising travel to Novosibirsk, Russia's third largest city.
"It was a horrendous time," he recalled.
"My wife telephoned to tell me what had happened and I was just dumb-struck.
"It took me three days to get there because there was a lot of trouble getting visas and organising flights," said Stephen, an audit officer at Silvery Tweed Cereals in Tweedmouth.
"It was just a horrible experience.
"It all coincided with a total solar eclipse and Novosibirsk was one of the best places in the world to see it, so all the flights out there were full," he added.
Jason's body was cremated in Novosibirsk shortly after the eclipse so the family could bring home his ashes.
Stephen added: "We do intend to have a service for Jason which everyone will be welcome to attend.
"However, due to the fact his mother received a broken neck in the accident, we have had to delay this until all involved have recovered from their injuries and we will make an announcement at a later date."

Jason was my nephew and he was such a wonderful, intelligent and loving little boy. His loss is such a tragedy and he will be sadly missed by all of his family. Alison x
